Hoken Oly is my son's name. My family is from Norway and my grandpa's name was Oly. My husband has a friend from Norway named Hoken. So we put these 2 names together thinking they sounded great. Then, some buddies from Alta, Utah decided it sounded like an expression. To name a few, "HokenOly! Look at the size of that bear" and "HokenOly! That was a steep climb". Soon it was a common utterance and instead of being mortified that we had made a terrible name choice, we decided to embrace the expression.
I have been designing t-shirts since I was a kid living in Ketchum, Idaho. I used to hand paint them, but the past few years I have been getting them printed and selling them in local shops. I've been a graphic designer since 1991, but always seem to gravitate towards the t-shirt world. So, Shirley Studebaker (the brains behind the business) and I decided to expand our line to the global community. When we were searching for a name, in fun we both shouted, HokenOly! Well, it stuck. We hope you like our designs and PLEASE feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. Sincerely, Britt Johnston and Shirley Studebaker |
